What is your name?

Cooper Jess


How did you get involved in boat racing?

 My Grandfather took to me a SO race in Winneconne, Wisconsin when I was eight years old. I was hooked instantly! Took me more than 5 years to convince my mother to let me race in APBA.


When and where was your first race?

 July 16th, 1967   Kaukauna, Wisconsin. ASH


What classes have you raced?

I started in ASH, raced JSH once to make the class for a couple of girls, ran ASR, 15SSR, 25SSR, BSR (20H, 20 cuber Hot Rod and 15 Hot Rod), 15SSH, ASH, CSH, CSR, 20SSR plus AMR and BMR.


Who have you looked up to in the sport?

Billy Hutchins was my big course hero. Chasing Andy Hansen for years helped make me a better driver, Andy also got me started building my own boats.


Favorite race?

Hinton, WV


Greatest accomplishment in racing?

Winning 2 national championships, plus the Thunderbowl in 1993 at Hinton, WV or maybe winning Top-O in my class two years in a row.


What are some activities you enjoy outside of racing?

Running my businesses and spending time with my friends.


Best Advice?

Enjoy the people around the races, that has been the funniest part of my racing.
