Most likely the penultimate power rankings of the 2020 preseason, 300SSH is sure to be one of the most interesting to date. One of the newest classes in Stock Outboard(the newest if you ignore the re-introduction of 15SSR and 15SSH), 300SSH has exploded in popularity over the past few seasons. The sealed engine, uniform 2 blade propellors and boat specs allow for the competition levels to be extremely high. A reason so many people are drawn to 300SSH is that on any given day it is realistic that any given driver can win the race. Much like anything else in life, some drivers have established themselves as perennial podium finishers, but less of that has to do with equipment but with aggressive starting and driving. As the 2020 season ramps up, let us dive into what is surely going to be one of the can't miss classes not only at the Springfield Nationals, but at every race all season. Similar to CSH, this week we will be joined by a guest ranker. Many of you know Robert "Scoop" Trolian from his fan favorite "Scoop's Troops" segment on the Throttled podcast and he was gracious enough to spend some time putting together his power rankings.
300SSH Fan Rankings:
1. Sean Bryne
2. Trey Marquard
3. Michelle Snyder
4. Karl Armstrong
5. Jim Tryon
6. Terry Kerr
7. Michael Sharphouse
8. Robert Trolian
9. Joe Johnson
10. Johnny Wlodarski
Scoop's rankings
1. Mikey Pavlick
In order to be the man, you have to beat the man. Mikey is the defending champ so he is the man. Enough said
2. Robert Trolian
With Terry Kerr again on injured reserve and Brian busy with crew chief duties for Dominick, I have assumed the Team Racecraft Factory Ride. The rig has won 4 of the last 5 nationals, thus giving me a great opportunity to win the big one.
3. Sean Byrne
With Sutter's Gold Power and set ups, coupled with JMK as a teammate, Sean is a very good driver and never misses a start. This combination is a threat to win any given day on any course.
4. Karl Armstrong
I have nothing but praise for this 2nd year driver. Karl place third at Wakefield behind Mikey Pavlick and Brian Trolian as a rookie. Add that to his numerous heat and race wins and you have a serious contender anywhere.
5. Joel Kiddy
If I knew Joel was going to make it to more races I would definitely rank him higher. But with his job and responsibilities, he had to prioritize. Joel is fast, confident and definitely a player come Springfield.
6. Trey Marquard
Fresh off the west coast 300 series title and also my Team Racecraft teammate, Try has a full season under his belt and after speaking with him in Seattle, I feel his confidence is there and he is ready for the big guns.
7. Jim Tryon
I don't know many of the west coast guys, but what I do know is results. Everytime I see west coast results, Jim is on the podium. How do you not put him on the list?
8. Robert Lisuis
Robert and both of his kids are super fast, however with school and internships the kids may not race as much, leaving the duties to Dad. Robert is a threat to win every weekend in region 6, with home field advantage at nationals this year, I look for a great showing from him.
9. George Bressler
Pennsylvania lighting I call him. George came on to the scene a couple of years ago and has really made an impact. He has that Runnecraft running great and should fare well this year.
10. Michael Sharphouse
The other region 3 RunneCraft, Michael looks like he's ready to take that net step up and compete with the best of them.
Honorable mentions:
Chris Stager
Tom Schlarb-Needs to shake tunnel boat cobwebs
Charlie Pater
Cody Schwindt
Michelle Snyder- Would be higher, but Michelle will be planning a wedding this summer.
Congratulations to all those who made the top 10! I can't wait to see how this list will change throughout the season.
With that said, pre-registration is now open for the 2020 SO-MOD-J National Championships in Springfield, Ohio! Head over to https://www.springfieldnationals.com and let the scorers know what you plan on racing. We expect Springfield to be one of the biggest Nationals in a long time, meaning the burden on our scorers and officials will be higher than ever. Pre-registration will be paramount and those choosing to ignore pre-registration and increase the race committee's workload will be subject to not only financial penalties, but the wrath of Don Allen.
