Dayton,Ohio is home to two things of significance. The National Museum of the US Air Force and the Dayton Hydro-bowl. While the Air Force museum is the worlds largest military aviation museum, the Hydro-Bowl was the site of the worlds larges Stock Outboard Nationals held in 1974 with around 835 entries. The shoreline was plastered in hydros and runabouts from all over the country and that week would forever put Dayton in the history books. Dayton has a special place in the heart of boat racers, hosting various large races over the years but it is the outboard racers who continue to make the journey back year after year in search of world speed records.
2019 was no exception as we saw a handful of records fall, in the J classes, Stock classes and Modified classes. Kori Ladd has been testing and it shows. After a very strong performance at the Wakefield Nationals, Kori has been on a roll. Dayton was not exception for the young driver, who has made a name for herself during the 2019 season. Kori broke the 3mi/3 lap and 3mi/4 lap J Stock Runabout records. Josh Toccalino also proved to be the fastest out there, while establishing the 3mi/3 lap and 3mi/4 lap records in 125 Modified Hydro and breaking the 3mi/ 4 Lap record in A Stock Hydro. It was a battle in B Stock Hydro where Braxton Miller and Johnny Wlodarski would duel it out all weekend, fighting for records. On Saturday Braxton was able to break the 3mi/3 lap record with Wlodarski hot on his trail. Sunday, Wlodarski would go out the first heat and break the current 3 mi/ 4 lap record, only to go out the second heat and break his own record. When the spray settled and inspection cleared, seven records were broken over the course of the weekend. Kori Ladd was also presented with the Pop Trolian award for her performance and John Wlodarski III was awarded the Harry O'Brien High Point Award for overall high points on Saturday with a win in 15SSH, ASR and second on time in BSH.
A huge thank you goes out to Ed Hearn for all his hard work in keeping this event going, we hope to see more drivers at Dayton in 2020 and see more records fall because records are meant to be broken.
