What to Watch for: Labor Day Weekend

For many non-racers, Labor Day Weekend means that summer is winding down and winter is sneaking up on them like Peter Lauer in his 15SSR. For the racing community, Labor Day weekend means that the season is just kicking in to second gear. As we proceed to the final leg of the season, I am going to outline the five things I am looking forward to seeing the most this weekend.

5. Who will be crowned the 2019 APBA National Champion in 45SST and Formula 1? Right outside of Denver, Colorado the "Roar of the Rockies" will be taking place all weekend. Alongside the Tri-Hulls and J Hydros, we will see who is crowned the king of 45SST and Formula 1. In the 45SST class, expect the likes of Mark Schmerbauch and Steve Merleau to be the heavy favorites, but I sure wouldn't rule out newcomers such as Leland Broge out of Wyandotte, MI. In the F1 class, I expect Spencer Love and F1 newcomer RJ West to give Ashton Rinker everything they've got.

4. CSR North American Championships

Drivers from all throughout the country set to do battle on the Susquehanna river in Lock Haven, PA for the North American Championships. Expect heavy hitters such as Logan Sweeney and Scott Reed to be ready to take the crown. Maybe national champion Dean Sutherland or high points contender Tom Smith will make the journey as well?

3. Oshkosh Drivers School

One of my favorite parts of racing is when we are able to administer a driving school to hopefully get more people interested in our sport. The folks at MRC and BSOA are sure to do a great job and I hope we get to see a few fresh faces join region 7 racing. Oh yeah, I'm looking forward to the actual race as well.

2. The Dash for the CASH

This event truly needs no introduction. With CSH heavy hitters from all around the east coast and the midwest flocking to one of racing's premiere locations, there will be no shortage on entertainment starting at noon this coming Sunday. I look for perennial front runners Matt Dagostino, Billy Allen and Scott Clark to be challenged by dash newcomers Dustin Pearson and Mac Pfalzer. With not only a large cash purse but bragging rights on the line, expect this dash to be one of the best.

1. The Hauenstein Racer Party

Every year at the Oshkosh shake the lake event, the Hauenstein family hosts a legendary party for essentially the entire racing community to attend. Unfortunately for us, Fred and Linda are planning on moving to California before next season's Labor Day event, so it appears this will be the final racer party in Oshkosh. This event was the highlight of many people's entire season and we look forward to making this the best party yet.

The Throttled team wishes everyone a safe and fun Labor Day Weekend and we can't wait to recap it all next Thursday at 8:00 eastern!
